At a morgue in Cook County, Chicago, dead bodies are doubled up on trays! The morgue is overcrowded due to so many holiday deaths. Coffins didn’t come in and funeral directors were out of the office and on holiday vacation.
Cook County Medical Examiner Dr. Nancy Jones told WBBM Newsradio 780′s Steve Miller: “My rule is, if you have two bodies on a tray, you have to have two thin bodies.” She added that the morgue has surprisingly been “doubling people up for decades”.
Jones said, “We had this huge upswing in deaths right at the end of the year, and with the holidays being on Saturdays, it really created a backlog because the funeral directors weren’t coming in.” She also added that “more bodies could not go out because coffins were on back order”.
Jones ended the interview on comforting note saying that “the coffins are now in, and a mass county burial is scheduled for next week”.
