Navy Football Player Midshipman David Forney Found Dead Thursday In Bancroft Hall

ANNAPOLIS, MD. (THECOUNT) — U.S. Navy football player, Midshipman 1st Class, David Forney, was found dead Thursday at the Annapolis, Maryland Naval Academy.

Forney, 22, of Walkersville, Maryland, was found unresponsive in his room in Bancroft Hall on Thursday by fellow midshipman.

A CPR-certified midshipman attempted to resuscitate Forney before he was transported to the nearby Anne Arundel County Medical Center, reports Military.

“Words cannot express our pain and sorrow,” Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo said in a statement. “First and foremost, our deepest condolences to the Forney family. The Navy Football Brotherhood is not a team, we are a family. We are devastated to have lost one of our brothers. We all loved — and will always love — David. We pray for strength during this most difficult time.”

Forney, a member of the 9th Company, was set to become a naval officer in May. The political science major was assigned to commission as a cryptologic warfare officer.

A cause of death was not provided.

MD Man Adonias Gomez Arrested In 2018 Wendy’s Knife Attack ID’d As Pedestrian Killed Wednesday Night

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD. (THECOUNT) — Montgomery Village, Maryland man, Adonias Gomez, who was arrested in 2018 over a knife attack at a Wendy’s restaurant, has been identified as the victim fatally struck by a vehicle in Montgomery County Wednesday night.

Gomez, 62, was killed after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night, Montgomery County police detectives said.

Officials responded to calls of a man down on Midcounty Highway near Pier Point Place around 7:05 on Wednesday night. When they arrived, Gomez was suffering fatal injuries from a vehicle strike.

Gomez resided at the nearby Cider Mill Apartments.

Officials determined that a 2014 Acura MDX was traveling southbound on Midcounty Highway and was approaching Pier Point place when it fatally struck Gomez.

Gomez was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

In December of 2018, Gomez was arrested near a Wendy’s drive-thru area after police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife and threatening customers.

When police arrived, they found Gomez holding a large knife with blood on it in his hand. Gomez refused to comply with all the orders given by the officers. Officers deployed a Taser and Gomez was taken into custody.

At the time, Gomez was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and endangering the public safety while being intoxicated.

Morgan Wootten DeMatha Catholic HS Coach Passes Away Tuesday

HYATTSVILLE, MD. (THECOUNT) — Hyattsville, Maryland, DeMatha Catholic High School coach Morgan Wootten, one of the most successful high school basketball coach in the sport’s history, died Tuesday. He was 88.

DeMatha High School shared the Wootten family’s announcement on Twitter, saying Wootten was surrounded by friends and family was he crossed over Tuesday.

Wootten coached at DeMatha from 1956 to 2002, pushing his team to more than 1,200 victories and sending a dozen players on to the NBA, according to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

DeMatha won more than 30 conference championships under Wootten’s leadership.

MD Mother Nazia Gill & 6-Year-Old Son Struck By Columbia Vehicle Boy Dead Mother Hospitalized

COLUMBIA, MD. (THECOUNT) — Nazia Gill, of Ellicott City, MD, has been identified as the mother struck by a vehicle Monday along with her 6-year-old boy in Columbia. The boy was killed in the collision.

Gill, 39, was injured and her child killed after they were struck by a vehicle near Harpers Farm Road & Twin Rivers Road, near Wilde Lake Tennis Club in Columbia, MD Monday afternoon.

According to police, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Harpers Farm Road and Twin Rivers Road around 2 p.m. Monday. Both victims were transported to local hospitals where the boy was later pronounced dead.

Gill suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the two were struck while in the crosswalk, reports FOX5DC.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this time and the collision is under investigation.

MD Man Patrick Tackney Arrested In Tuesday Annapolis Pedestrian Strike That Killed Ernest Powell

ANNAPOLIS, MD. (THECOUNT) — Patrick Tackney, of Brooklyn, NY, has been identified as the suspect arrested in the deadly pedestrian hit-and-run that killed Annapolis, MD, man Ernest Powell on Tuesday.

Tackney, 48, whose former address is listed as 1925 Manor Grove Rd in Annapolis, was arrested after police say he was the driver of a vehicle who fatally struck 65-year-old Powell in Annapolis Tuesday night.

Officers say, Powell was on-foot in the area of 1950 West Street around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle pulling out of a driveway.

Investigators say Powell suffered serious injuries and was transported to nearby hospital where he later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

Authorities say witnesses prevented the driver of the vehicle, who police identified as 48-year-old Patrick Tackney, from leaving the scene. Tackney was arrested and faces multiple charges including negligent manslaughter and driving while impaired. Tackney is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond, reports FOX5.

Brooklyn MD Firefighter Brent Hahn Killed In Manchester MD Single-Vehicle Crash Sunday

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD. (THECOUNT) — Anne Arundel County firefighter Brent Hahn has been identified as the victim killed Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Carroll County, Maryland, according to reports.

Hahn, 24, was killed in a pickup truck crash confirmed the Anne Arundel County Fire Department on Monday morning.

According to the State police in Westminster, Hahn was operating a pickup truck around 4:20 a.m. Sunday on Route 27 near Sullivan Road, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The pickup then made contact with a tree before coming to a rest.

Hahn was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Hahn, who was a three-year veteran of the department, was assigned to Station 31 in Brooklyn, Maryland.

He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department.

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the Anne Arundel County Fire Department announces the passing of Firefighter II Brent Hahn of Company 31 “D” Shift. Firefighter Hahn was killed early this morning in a motor vehicle collision while off duty,” Lt. Michael Mayo said.

“Chief Trisha Wolford and Assistant Chief Lawrence Schultz have been to station 31 and are in communication with the members at station 31. This is a difficult time for the Department and the family of FF Hahn. We will continue to provide updates as we receive additional information.”

“Brent was a major asset to our department and community, a dedicated volunteer who always put forth the most effort,” the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department posted on its Facebook page, reports WBAL.

Roads were wet at the time of the crash from the early morning rain.

The accident remains under investigation.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD. (THECOUNT) — Bowie Police are actively searching for an armed suspect who stormed and then took off in a marked FedEx box truck in Bowie, MD, on Monday morning.

Police say they are seeking a suspect, described only as a tall black male, who they say stole a FedEx truck at gunpoint Monday morning, leaving the driver on the side of the road.

It is unclear if the driver was injured in the incident which occurred in the 6000 block of Grenfell Place near Pope’s Creek Park in Bowie around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The truck has a Maryland license plate reading 8CW3536 and is a 2014 Chevy box truck with FedEx markings, reports Fox5DC.

UPPERCO, MD. (THECOUNT) — Thomas Blanton Jr., has been identified as the body discovered in a field in Upperco, Maryland on Monday, according to Tuesday reports.

“Tom” Blanton, 36, was identified by Baltimore County police on Tuesday as the man found dead in a field in Upperco on Monday.

A cause of death was not provided by officials as of Tuesday morning.

Detectives from Baltimore County Police homicide unit are still investigating the circumstances around the death and are waiting for autopsy results by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, reports Baltimore.CBS.
