WI Couple Greg & Cynthia Hettmansberger ID’d As Victims In Tuesday Night Kansas Fatal Deer Collision

PRATT COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Gregory and Cynthia Hettmansberger, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, have been identified as the victims in a Tuesday night vehicle crash in Pratt County, Kansas.

Gregory, 65 and 70-year-old Cynthia were involved in a vehicle-versus-deer two-vehicle collision near Pratt Tuesday night.

According to reports, Gregory was operating a Toyota RAV4 on US-54 outside of Pratt, when the vehicle became disabled after coming into contact with a deer. The vehicle was then struck by a camper van around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Cynthia was transported to an area hospital with serious unknown injuries.

Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

A 26-year-old man operating the van was not hurt in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

KS Teen Johnnie Coates ID’d As Victim In Wednesday Night Satanta Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

HASKELL COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Johnnie Coates, of Holcomb, Kansas, has been identified as the teenage victim in a Wednesday night fatal vehicle crash in Haskell County, Kansas.

Coates, 18, was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Satanta Wednesday night.

According to reports, Coates was operating a Ford Taurus on County Road FF near US-160, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then entered a culvert and rolled over.

Coates was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

MO Pair Elizabeth Glenn & Teen Jayden Swavely ID’d As Victims In Monday KS Vehicle Crash Involving Semi

PRATT COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Elizabeth Glenn, of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Jayden Swavely, also of Saint Louis, have been identified as the victims in a Monday morning double-fatal vehicle crash in Pratt Count, Kansas.

Glenn, 60, and 16-year-old Swavely, were both killed in a Pratt vehicle crash that also injured the driver, 42-year-old Jamie Swavely of Saint Louis.

According to reports, Jamie Swavely was operating a Hyundai Elantra on US-54 in Pratt, when the vehicle attempted to pass several vehicles and came into head contact with a big-rig Monday around 4:30 a.m.

Glenn and Jayden Swavely were pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Jamie Swavely was transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries.

The 54-year-old driver of the eastbound semi was not injured in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

KS Man Christopher Day ID’d As Pedestrian In Friday Leonardville Fatal Hit-And-Run

RILEY COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Christopher Day of Leonardville, Kansas, has been identified as the pedestrian in a Friday morning hit-and-run collision in Riley County.

Chris Day, 38, was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a big-rig near Leonardville Friday morning.

According to reports, Day was on-foot in the area of 12900 Barton Road in Leonardville, when he was struck by a passing vehicle around 4:30 a.m.

Investigators say they are searching for the hit-and-run driver.

Officials are attempting to locate the driver of a red Peterbilt semi truck and the driver of a late 90’s model white Ford Explorer.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.

KS Teen Courtney Windholz ID’d As Victim In Saturday Ogallah Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

TREGO COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Courtney Windholz, of Bucklin, Kansas, has been identified as the victim in a Saturday fatal vehicle crash in Trego County.

Windholz, 19, was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday near Ogallah.

According to reports, Windholz was operating an SUV on 290th near Road M in Ogallah, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway on Saturday. The vehicle then made contact with an embankment and rolled over.

Windholz, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Hostage Situation Unfolding At Manhattan Kansas Lee Elementary School Wednesday

MANHATTAN, KS. (THECOUNT) — A large police presence is arriving at a Manhattan, Kansas elementary school Wednesday morning on reports of a possible hostage situation, according to reports.

Riley County police are arriving to a possible hostage situation around 1:00 a.m. at Lee Elementary School in Manhattan, Kansas.

The school is located at, 701 Lee St in Manhattan, KS.

A man called and told them he was inside holding another person hostage, reports KSNT.

Officers have stationed multiple units in a perimeter around the elementary school. They said they are working to confirm the suspect and potential hostage are inside Lee Elementary, and working with Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 School District to figure out what this means for school in the morning.

The public is advised to avoid the area.

Man Arrested After Attempting To Smuggle 1/2 Kilo Cocaine Under Toupee

SPAIN. (THECOUNT) — Police in Spain have arrested a man who allegedly tried to smuggle half a kilo of cocaine under his rather ill fitting toupee while traveling through Barcelona international airport.

Spanish authorities released a before-and-after mugshot of the suspect showing the placement of the drugs with-and-without the hairpiece.

Authorities said the man appeared to be extremely nervous when he arrived on a flight from Bogota, Colombia. They were also puzzled by his disproportionately large hairpiece, KCTV reported.

When officers asked him to remove the wig, they reportedly found a package of cocaine stuck to his head. The drugs have an estimated street value of 30,000 euros (about $34,000), according to authorities.

“There is no limit to the inventiveness of drug traffickers trying to mock controls,” the Spanish National Police said in a statement Tuesday.

The law enforcement agency recently released photos of the man, with his eyes blocked, although he was arrested at the end of June. They did not provide any additional details on his identity.

KS Man Kimball Hiner ID’d As Victim In Fatal Duman TX Single-Vehicle Crash Sunday

SHERMAN COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Kimball Hiner, of Elkhart, Kansas, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle crash in Sherman County, TX on Sunday.

Hiner, 60, who was residing in Dumas, died after DPS officials say he fell asleep while operating a vehicle in Sherman County on Sunday.

According to DPS officials, Hiner was traveling north on FM 119 when he fell asleep after 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

His car then veered off to the west of the roadway, went airborne and crashed into the ground on its nose, reports NewsChannel10 Wednesday.

Hiner was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries consistent with the crash.

DPS officials said in a crash report that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to social media, Hiner works as a driller and is originally from Lawton, Oklahoma.

Kansas City Man Identified As Victim Found Fatally Shot Outside Raytown Apartment Complex

KANSAS CITY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Kansas City police have identified, Coty D. Henry, of Kansas City, as the man found fatally wounded inside a vehicle outside of a Raytown apartment building.

Henry, 25, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot of The Trails at the Ridge apartments in the 8600 block of East 61st Terrace.

Police were called to the scene at about 2:45 p.m.

Henry was pronounced dead at the scene.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake rocked Pawnee, Oklahoma Saturday morning in a seismic event that was felt in at least six surrounding states.
