LAS VEGAS: Around 90 kids and adults mostly in town for youth related sporting events were sickened by an unknown stomach virus. So far at least 20 people have been admitted to Las Vegas area hospitals. Food poisoning was immediately expected to be the culprit, but emergency room doctors ruled that out.

Queen Hospitalized

The Queen has been admitted into the hospital, says Buckingham Palace. It has been 10 long years ago since the Queen was last hospitalized.

The Queen is in hospital “as a precaution” where she is being assessed for symptoms of gastroenteritis, Buckingham Palace says.

 
The palace is saying the Queen, 86, was transported to King Edward VII Hospital in London.

All official engagements for this week, including the Queen’s trip to Rome, will be either cancelled or postponed.

 
The Queen was in good spirits when she was driven to hospital by private car on Sunday. Earlier in the day she conducted a medal presentation at the Palace.

The BBC’s royal correspondent Peter Hunt says the Queen will remain in hospital under observation for around two days. The Queen was last in hospital 10 years ago, our correspondent adds. Stomach liningNews of her illness emerged on Saturday after she was forced to cancel a trip to Swansea to mark St David’s Day.

Gastroenteritis causes inflammation of the stomach lining and intestines. The infection can be transmitted through contact with an infected person or contaminated food and drink. Symptoms can include vomiting, fever and stomach ache.

The Queen had been due to spend two days in Rome with the Duke of Edinburgh next weekend, at the invitation of Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano. It is not now clear whether the visit will be re-scheduled.

Depeche Mode’s Lead Singer David Gahan Collapses at Concert, Now Tour Shut Down

The talented and beloved David Gahan, lead singer of Depeche Mode, fell in his dressing room Tuesday night just before the band’s performance, and was rushed to a hospital in Athens, Greece.

Depeche Mode had to cancel their performance in Athens due to David’s unknown reason for collapsing.

David might be suffering from ‘gastroenteritis’ (stomach flu). According to Rolling Stone. The band members just released this statement
about David’s condition and DM tour:
“Dave is currently undergoing further tests.” “Depeche Mode apologizes to all their fans for this inconvenience and wish Dave a speedy recovery.”

Depeche Mode also just cancelled another show in Istanbul! Looks like they are holding off on a whole list of venues now…

The nixed shows affect:
Bucharest, Romania; Sofia, Bulgaria; Belgrade, Serbia; and Zagreb, Croatia and the tour is shut down until at least May 21st. Ticket holders for all the shows are advised to hold on to their tickets as announcements regarding rescheduled dates or cancellations will be made shortly.

Depeche Mode has been currently promoting their new album, Sounds of the Universe, with shows original scheduled through February 2010.
