SCOTTSBLUFF, NE. (THECOUNT) — Brody Gustafson, 19, is the identified driver involved in a fatal pedestrian crash Friday night at 23rd Street and Broadway in Scottsbluff, Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The male pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck while reportedly crossing Broadway in a crosswalk and later died at a hospital. His identity has not yet been released.

Scottsbluff police said officers were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 9:25 p.m. on October 9, 2026, following reports of a vehicle-pedestrian collision.

Responding officers found the pedestrian lying in the southbound lanes of Broadway, with a pickup truck stopped just south of him. The man was transported to Regional West Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, Gustafson was driving a 1991 Nissan pickup southbound on Broadway toward 23rd Street when the truck struck the pedestrian. Police said the man was reportedly crossing within the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Broadway was closed for approximately four hours while officers conducted an accident reconstruction and investigated the circumstances of the crash.

Authorities are examining potential contributing factors, including speed and distracted driving. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, and police have not announced any charges.
