Four women were struck by the vehicle and transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where Johnson and Kennedy were pronounced dead. An 84-year-old woman remained in critical condition, while a 60-year-old woman was reported in stable condition, according to the latest identification report from News 12 Bronx.
The Mercedes also struck multiple vehicles, setting off a chain-reaction collision. Investigators said the car rear-ended two vehicles, forcing them into two additional cars. Several other people were injured and taken to Jacobi, with those victims reported in stable condition.
The 81-year-old driver was also transported to the hospital and was reported in stable condition in initial coverage of the crash. All involved parties remained at the scene, according to police.
No arrests had been announced in the latest reports, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad was investigating the circumstances of the crash. The apparent medical episode remains a preliminary explanation, not a confirmed finding about what caused the collision.
The fatal crash occurred in Allerton, a residential neighborhood in the northeastern Bronx borough of New York City, near the intersection of Allerton and Holland avenues. The area is part of the city’s broader Bronx region, north of Manhattan.
