BROOME, NY. (THECOUNT) — Brian W. Cross, 57, of Middleburgh, has been identified as the man who died Tuesday morning following a motorcycle crash involving a deer in the town of Broome, New York, according to the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on State Route 145 when Cross was traveling south on a motorcycle and struck a deer that entered the roadway, authorities said.

Cross was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Cross’s wife owns 2 Twisted Ladies ice cream shop in Cairo. Following his death, she announced on the business’s Facebook page that the shop would remain closed for the week while she grieves.
The shop is scheduled to reopen September 8 and September 9 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. to sell its remaining ice cream inventory before closing for the season. Quarts will be sold for $7 in all flavors, according to the announcement.
“I need to be able to grieve and process the loss of my husband Brian and need one less thing to worry about during that time,” she wrote.
She said the business will still offer ice cream advent calendars in November but that she needs time to process the loss and asked the 2 Twisted Ladies community to continue supporting the shop next year.
The crash remains under investigation by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office.
Broome is a town in Schoharie County in eastern New York, located in the state’s Capital Region southwest of Albany. State Route 145 runs through the rural Schoharie County community.
