BRANDENBURG, KY. (THECOUNT) — Trenton Thomas, 26, and Karlie Gardner Haycraft, 29, both of Brandenburg, Kentucky, were killed early Sunday when the Ford Fusion they were traveling in was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Isaac Jenkins, 26, also of Brandenburg, on Old Mill Road in Meade County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were requested at approximately 12:54 a.m. to investigate the fatal two-vehicle collision on Old Mill Road, also designated KY 1638, near LG&E Road.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Jenkins was traveling eastbound on Old Mill Road when his vehicle crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane for unknown reasons. The vehicle then collided head-on with the Ford Fusion occupied by Thomas and Haycraft.
Thomas, who was driving the Ford Fusion, and Haycraft, the passenger, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County Coroner at approximately 1:13 a.m.
Jenkins sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision. He was transported by air to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
The circumstances that caused Jenkins’ vehicle to cross into the opposing lane remain under investigation. Kentucky State Police have not announced whether any citations or criminal charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
Investigators have not released additional information regarding the speed of either vehicle, roadway conditions or other potential contributing factors. The preliminary findings remain subject to the completion of the investigation.
Multiple emergency agencies assisted at the crash scene, including the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County EMS, Muldraugh Fire Department, Flaherty Fire Department, Muldraugh Police Department, KY 7 Air Methods and the Meade County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the victims’ families or funeral arrangements. Further information may be provided as the investigation continues and officials complete their review of the collision.
Old Mill Road, or KY 1638, is located in Meade County in north-central Kentucky. Brandenburg, the county seat, is situated approximately 45 miles southwest of Louisville and near the Ohio River. The crash was reported near the intersection of Old Mill Road and LG&E Road.
