MCALLEN, TX. (THECOUNT) — Fabian Guerrero, 64, a Texas immigration attorney, and his son, Fabien Diego Guerrero, 31, both of McAllen, have died following a head-on collision involving a Toyota Scion and a Cadillac Escalade in Hidalgo County.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Fabien Diego Guerrero was driving a white 2005 Toyota Scion southbound on FM 2220, also known as Ware Road, just south of 6 Mile Line when the vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons.

The Toyota entered the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a black 2026 Cadillac Escalade. The impact resulted in the deaths of both father and son, who were traveling together in the Scion.
Fabien Diego Guerrero, who was driving the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. His father, Fabian Guerrero, was transported to DHR Health for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. He later died at the hospital.
Fabian Guerrero was a well-known immigration lawyer in the McAllen area. His death, along with that of his son, leaves two members of the same family dead following the collision. Additional information about their family and funeral arrangements had not been released in the preliminary report.
The unidentified occupants of the Cadillac Escalade also required medical treatment. The vehicle’s male passenger and female driver were transported to DHR Health following the crash. Both sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.
DPS troopers remain involved in the investigation as authorities work to determine why the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic. The preliminary findings do not establish what caused the vehicle to veer across the center line, and investigators have not released additional details regarding potential contributing factors.
The crash occurred along FM 2220, a roadway serving the McAllen area in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. The location is south of 6 Mile Line and within the broader Hidalgo County region near the U.S.-Mexico border.
