AUSTIN COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Anon Vaughn Hoffman, 21, of Montgomery, Texas, a detention officer with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, has been identified as the man killed Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash at an intersection in Austin County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:05 p.m. at the intersection of FM 2502 and FM 2754 near Bellville, in the southeastern Texas region near the Houston metropolitan area. Hoffman was riding a motorcycle when it collided with a sport utility vehicle, according to the preliminary investigation.

DPS said Hoffman was operating a 2024 Harley-Davidson southwest on FM 2754 and approaching FM 2502. At the same time, a 2021 Volkswagen Atlas was traveling southeast on FM 2502.
According to investigators, Hoffman stopped at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection. The preliminary investigation indicates that he failed to yield the right of way to the Volkswagen.
The motorcycle and SUV collided in the intersection, ejecting Hoffman from the Harley-Davidson, DPS said. Emergency personnel responded to the crash, but Hoffman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 49-year-old driver of the Volkswagen and a 17-year-old passenger reportedly suffered no injuries. Both were transported to Mid Coast Medical Center-Bellville for further evaluation, according to DPS.
Hoffman’s death was later confirmed by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, where he had worked as a detention officer for approximately two years. The agency said Hoffman loved his work and was deeply valued by his shift mates, friends and colleagues.
“His absence will be felt profoundly across our agency,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Hoffman’s family also has longstanding ties to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. His father serves as a sergeant with the agency, while his mother works in the Central Jail Records Division.
The sheriff’s office said the loss has deeply affected Hoffman’s family and coworkers as they mourn the young officer.
“Our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside them,” the agency said, asking the community to keep the Hoffman family, his loved ones and his colleagues in their thoughts and prayers.
Montgomery County Sheriff Wesley Doolittle previously described Hoffman’s death as an “unimaginable loss” that would have a profound impact on the agency and its employees.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The preliminary account identifies an apparent failure to yield, but investigators have not announced a final determination regarding the collision.
FM 2502 and FM 2754 are located in Austin County, west of the greater Houston area and near the communities of Bellville and Industry. The rural intersection lies within the broader Southeast Texas region.
