LAS VEGAS, NV. (THECOUNT) — Carrot Top, the longtime Las Vegas comedian whose real name is Scott Thompson, was hospitalized Friday following a reported suicide attempt at his Las Vegas-area home, with his scheduled performance at the Luxor Hotel and Casino canceled as a result, according to TMZ and his representative.
Sources familiar with the situation told TMZ that Thompson, 61, attempted suicide Friday, September 18, 2026, in the Las Vegas area and was rushed to a local hospital.

Thompson’s representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed that the comedian is recovering in the hospital and receiving care and support.
“Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher told TMZ. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
TMZ reported Saturday morning that police were seen arriving at Thompson’s Las Vegas residence Friday afternoon. A photograph obtained by the outlet showed three police vehicles outside the home.
Authorities have not publicly released details about the circumstances surrounding the reported suicide attempt, and Thompson’s representative did not provide additional information about what led to the hospitalization.
Thompson had been scheduled to perform Friday night at the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom, where he has maintained his long-running Las Vegas residency. The performance was canceled following the hospitalization.
The Luxor’s official schedule lists Carrot Top performances Monday through Saturday, with Sunday dates generally designated as dark dates. The resort’s schedule specifically lists Saturday, September 19, as a scheduled performance and September 19 as a dark date elsewhere on its calendar, while Ticketmaster had listed both Friday and Saturday performances before the Friday show was canceled.
Carrot Top began performing in Las Vegas in 1995 at Bally’s, where he established himself as a rising comedy act. He moved to the MGM Grand in 1996 and performed there through 2005 before beginning his residency at the Luxor.
In November 2025, Luxor marked Thompson’s 20th anniversary at the resort. MGM Resorts has described him as the longest-running headlining comedian in Las Vegas and announced in 2023 that his contract had been extended through 2030.
His act is known for prop comedy, elaborate stage pieces, physical comedy and topical material. Thompson’s distinctive red hair and high-energy performances have made him one of the most recognizable comedians associated with the Las Vegas Strip.
The hospitalization comes during a period of increased public attention surrounding Thompson. A federal lawsuit filed in August by singer Brian Evans alleges that Thompson sent him an unsolicited sexually explicit video and subsequently convinced him to sign a settlement agreement. Those allegations are disputed and remain claims in litigation.
A separate declaration filed this week by a Florida man made additional allegations involving Thompson and alleged conduct in Winter Park, Florida, in 2021. Those allegations are part of the broader legal matter and have not been adjudicated.
There is no public evidence establishing that the lawsuit or the allegations contained in it were a cause of Thompson’s reported suicide attempt, and neither Thompson’s representative nor TMZ’s initial report attributed the hospitalization to the litigation.
Thompson’s current medical condition beyond his representative’s statement that he is recovering has not been disclosed.
Carrot Top’s Las Vegas residency has become one of the longest-running individual comedy engagements on the Strip. His more than two decades at the Luxor have made the comedian a fixture of the city’s entertainment industry, with his show continuing through multiple generations of Las Vegas visitors.
