SHREVEPORT, LA. (THECOUNT) — Makayla Pennywell, 14, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was shot and killed Sunday in Shreveport. Authorities said the victim’s 13-year-old male sibling has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the incident, according to the Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
Police responded Sunday afternoon, August 2, to a reported shooting in Shreveport. Officers arriving at the scene located Pennywell suffering from fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead, and the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office later confirmed her identity.

Investigators said a 13-year-old male juvenile, identified as the victim’s sibling, was taken into custody and charged with Second Degree Murder. Authorities transported the juvenile to a juvenile detention facility following the arrest.
Officials have not released additional details regarding what led to the shooting or the circumstances immediately preceding the incident. Police have also not disclosed whether a firearm was recovered or whether any other individuals were present when the shooting occurred.
The investigation remains active as Shreveport detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The case is being investigated by the Shreveport Police Department with assistance from the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
