ALTAMONT, KS. (THECOUNT) — Kansas couple, Ryan James Myers, 38, of Altamont, and Samantha Cahow, 30, of Parsons, were killed Wednesday afternoon after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 59 just north of Altamont, according to authorities.
Altamont is located in southeastern Kansas in Labette County, approximately 140 miles south of Kansas City. The fatal collision occurred on U.S. Highway 59, a major north-south route through the region.
According to investigators, Myers was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on U.S. 59 shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle crossed left of center into the southbound lane.
Authorities said the motorcycle collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Jeep Gladiator driven by Shaun Powell, 55, of Fort Scott.
Myers and Cahow suffered fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Powell sustained minor injuries and was treated following the collision.
Investigators have not yet determined why the motorcycle crossed the centerline. No additional contributing factors have been released.
U.S. Highway 59 was impacted while emergency crews responded to the scene and investigators documented evidence related to the fatal crash.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
