TN Teen Camden Callihan ID’d As Victim In Monday Antioch YMCA Camp Tree Fall Incident

ANTIOCH, TN. (THECOUNT) — Camden Robert Callihan, 15, died Monday after being struck by a falling tree while hiking with fellow campers at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Antioch, Tennessee, according to authorities and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee.

Antioch is a community in southeastern Nashville near Percy Priest Lake in Davidson County. Camp Widjiwagan is a YMCA-operated camp facility located on Smith Springs Road and serves youth campers from across Middle Tennessee.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department confirmed the incident occurred Monday morning during the camp’s Teen Extreme Camp program while campers were participating in a supervised group hike in the woods.

According to the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, a tree fell and struck Callihan during the hike. Camp staff immediately activated emergency response protocols following the incident.

Callihan was transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for emergency medical treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he later died from his injuries, authorities said.

The YMCA said a support team was immediately dispatched to Camp Widjiwagan to provide assistance and counseling resources to campers and staff members affected by the tragedy.

In a statement, the organization said its primary focus remains communicating with the families involved and caring for those impacted while fully cooperating with authorities reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials have not released additional information regarding what caused the tree to fall or whether weather conditions may have played a role. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

No other injuries have been reported at this time.
