PHOENIX, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Jordan Devey, 38, a former NFL offensive guard and member of the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl XLIX championship team, died by suicide, according to his family.
Devey was a seven-year NFL veteran who played for five franchises during his professional football career, including the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and Buffalo Bills.

His wife, Linsey Devey, announced his death in a social media post Friday, noting that the day would have marked the couple’s 15th wedding anniversary. The pair shared four children together.
“You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘we’ll talk soon,'” Linsey wrote.
A GoFundMe page established following his death confirmed that Devey died by suicide and described him as a devoted husband, father, mentor, and volunteer coach. According to the fundraiser, he regularly coached his children’s sports teams and volunteered with athletes at a local high school, where he was deeply respected by players and staff.

Born in American Fork, Utah, Devey played college football at Memphis before entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He appeared in 44 career NFL games during his seven professional seasons.
Devey was a member of the New England Patriots organization during the 2014 season when the team captured Super Bowl XLIX. He later spent time with the 49ers, Chiefs, Raiders, and Bills before retiring from professional football in 2021 after making his final NFL appearance with Buffalo during the 2020 season.
Following his death, Devey’s parents spoke publicly about mental health awareness and told Fox 13 they believe he may have been suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE. CTE is a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated head trauma that can only be definitively diagnosed after death.
His family has not announced whether medical examinations will be conducted to determine if CTE contributed to his condition.
The GoFundMe campaign established in his memory has received support from friends, former teammates, and members of the football community as tributes continue to pour in honoring his life and legacy both on and off the field.
