TAUNTON, MA. (THECOUNT)Selina Mendez, 26, of Taunton, Massachusetts, died following a single-vehicle crash late Friday night on County Street in Taunton, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III. A 23-year-old female passenger survived the collision and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Taunton is located in Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts, approximately 40 miles south of Boston and 20 miles east of Providence, Rhode Island. The fatal crash occurred in the area of 266 County Street.

Officers responded to a reported single-vehicle collision at approximately 11:15 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a crash involving a passenger vehicle.

According to the Bristol District Attorney’s Office, responding officers located a 2001 Honda Accord that had sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side after striking a telephone pole.

Investigators said Mendez was operating the Honda at the time of the collision. Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene before she was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities said Mendez later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The passenger, a 23-year-old woman whose identity has not been released, also sustained injuries in the collision. Officials said her injuries were considered minor and she was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office has not released additional information regarding the circumstances that preceded the crash or what factors investigators are examining.

Officials have not announced whether weather, roadway conditions, mechanical issues, or other factors contributed to the collision as the investigation remains in its preliminary stages.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by authorities.
