RUSSELL COUNTY, KY. (THECOUNT) — Joshua Tyler Wethington, 28, of Russell Springs, Kentucky, was identified as the victim in an apparent drowning at Lake Cumberland on Wednesday, according to the Russell County Coroner’s Office. Coroner Mark Coots said authorities responded to the Caney Fork Creek area of the lake following reports of a drowning incident.
Russell County is located in south-central Kentucky near the Tennessee border. The incident occurred in the Caney Fork Creek area of Lake Cumberland, one of the largest reservoirs in the eastern United States.
According to Coroner Mark Coots, the Russell County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate the reported drowning.
Authorities said Wethington was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the incident.
The coroner’s office said Wethington’s body was transported to Frankfort for an autopsy by the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators have not released preliminary findings regarding the cause and manner of death pending the results of the autopsy and continued investigation.
Officials have not indicated whether additional individuals were involved or whether any contributing factors have been identified.
The drowning investigation remains active.
