MA Man Angel Sanchez Arrested In Springfield Motorcycle Crash Involving Machine Gun

SPRINGFIELD, MA. (THECOUNT) —Angel Sanchez, 20, of Springfield, Massachusetts, has been arrested on multiple gun-related charges after allegedly crashing a motorcycle and fleeing on foot in the city’s South End. A 16-year-old boy with outstanding warrants was also taken into custody during the same incident.

According to Springfield Police, officers were patrolling the South End near Emerson Wight Park around 5 p.m. Thursday when they observed a motorcycle being operated erratically. Police said the rider then struck a curb on Marble Street and flipped over.

The rider, later identified as Sanchez, got up and began running while holding his waistband and carrying a backpack. Officers pursued him on foot until he entered an apartment building on Oswego Street.

Police determined which apartment Sanchez entered and identified multiple people inside. One individual reportedly jumped from a window before officers could identify them. Investigators also received information that several people, including a 16-year-old boy with two outstanding warrants, had run into a nearby apartment on Adams Street. The 16-year-old was taken into custody.

During a search of the Oswego Street apartment, officers located the backpack Sanchez was seen carrying after the crash. Inside the backpack, police found a high-capacity firearm magazine and three 3D-printed sear-selectors, also known as Glock switches. These devices are designed to convert a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic machine gun.

Police also recovered a loaded AR-style rifle capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition during the search.

Sanchez was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of a loaded machine gun, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine or feeding device, and unlicensed possession of an assault weapon.

The name of the 16-year-old arrested in connection with the incident is not being released due to his age. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

The South End area of Springfield includes several residential streets near Emerson Wight Park. The Oswego Street and Adams Street locations are within close proximity to each other.
