PA Man Michael Rooney ID’d As Victim In Sunday Pittsburgh Fatal Motorcycle Crash

PITTSBURGH, PA. (THECOUNT) — Michael Rooney, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was killed and the driver of an SUV escaped injury following a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in the city’s Brookline neighborhood, located in Allegheny County in western Pennsylvania.

Rooney was 35.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, emergency crews responded at approximately 6:45 p.m. Sunday to the area of Brookline Boulevard in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood after reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle.

A preliminary investigation determined the SUV was attempting to make a left turn while exiting a business when Rooney’s motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Rooney suffered critical injuries in the impact and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently identified the victim as Michael Rooney, 35.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity.

Investigators said no signs of impairment have been announced, and officials indicated they do not expect criminal charges to be filed at this time. The crash remains under active investigation.

Motorcycle crashes involving left-turning vehicles are among the most common types of fatal motorcycle collisions nationwide, often occurring when drivers misjudge an approaching motorcycle’s speed or distance.
