NC Man Tywan Jordan ID’d As Victim In Wednesday Huntersville Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involving Tesla

HUNTERSVILLE, NC. (THECOUNT) — Tywan Jacquez Jordan, 36, of Charlotte , North Carolina, has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday evening on Interstate 77 in Mecklenburg County.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 10 on Interstate 77 South near Exit 23 for Gilead Road in Huntersville.

Troopers said Tywan “Ty” Jordan was operating a Kawasaki motorcycle when the vehicle traveled from the general purpose lanes into the toll lanes at an unauthorized crossover area.

Investigators said the motorcycle then collided with a Tesla after entering the toll lane area.

Jordan died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities did not report injuries to anyone inside the Tesla involved in the collision.

The crash occurred in Huntersville, a town in northern Mecklenburg County located within the Charlotte metropolitan area. Huntersville sits along the Interstate 77 corridor and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the region, with major residential, commercial, and transportation developments surrounding the highway.

Interstate 77 is one of North Carolina’s primary north-south interstates, connecting Charlotte with communities throughout the Piedmont region and continuing north into Virginia and Ohio. The corridor through Mecklenburg County includes both general travel lanes and express toll lanes designed to help manage traffic congestion.

Exit 23 at Gilead Road provides access to residential neighborhoods, commercial developments, and local businesses throughout Huntersville. The area experiences substantial commuter traffic due to its proximity to Charlotte and major employment centers within Mecklenburg County.

Following the collision, numerous emergency vehicles responded to the scene and multiple lanes of Interstate 77 South were closed while first responders assisted and investigators documented evidence.

Traffic backups were reported for an extended period Wednesday evening as authorities worked to clear the scene and reopen the interstate.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have not released additional information regarding possible contributing factors, and no further details were immediately available.

The driver of the Tesla was not publicly identified by authorities.

Additional information may be released as troopers continue their investigation into the fatal crash.
