MOUNTAIN CENTER, CA. (THECOUNT) — Eric Boettcher, of Rancho Mirage, California, has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Riverside County, California. He was 38.
According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, Boettcher was killed in a crash while riding a motorcycle near the intersection of Highway 74 and Carrizo Road in the Mountain Center area.
Officials said the collision occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.
The crash involved multiple vehicles and resulted in significant traffic disruptions along Highway 74.
Authorities closed lanes of the highway for several hours following the collision. The closure extended along portions of Highway 74 between the Pinyon Pines area and Bighorn Road as emergency personnel and investigators responded to the scene.
Mountain Center is a rural community located in the San Jacinto Mountains of Riverside County. The area serves as a gateway between the Coachella Valley and mountain communities and is traversed by State Route 74, a winding roadway commonly used by residents, visitors, and motorcyclists traveling through the region.
Highway 74, also known as the Pines to Palms Highway in portions of Riverside County, is a major mountain route connecting desert communities with higher-elevation areas. The roadway includes numerous curves, elevation changes, and scenic overlooks as it passes through the mountainous terrain.
Boettcher was a resident of Rancho Mirage, a city located in the Coachella Valley approximately 20 miles east of Mountain Center. The area is known for its residential communities, resorts, and access to outdoor recreation throughout Riverside County.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Officials have not released information regarding injuries to other parties involved in the multi-vehicle crash.
