GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (THECOUNT) — Michael Jaylen Coleman, of Duncan, South Carolina, was killed Tuesday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Greer, a city located in the Upstate region of South Carolina between Greenville and Spartanburg, authorities said.
Coleman was 28 years old.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Main Street and Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer.
Troopers said Coleman was operating a 2013 Chrysler 300 and was turning left from Valley Road onto East Main Street when the vehicle struck a curb, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and collided with a ditch before striking a tree.
Authorities said the Chrysler overturned following the impacts.
Emergency personnel responded to the crash scene and found Coleman suffering from fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Three passengers riding in the Chrysler were injured in the collision and transported by EMS to area hospitals for treatment. Authorities have not released their identities or the extent of their injuries.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office later identified Coleman and ruled his death accidental. Officials said he died from blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.
An external examination was scheduled for Wednesday as part of the coroner’s investigation.
The crash occurred in the Greer area of Greenville County, one of the fastest-growing regions in South Carolina. Wade Hampton Boulevard is a major roadway connecting portions of Greenville and Spartanburg counties and serves as a heavily traveled commercial corridor through the Upstate.
Investigators have not announced whether speed, impairment, mechanical issues, or other factors contributed to the crash. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
