Michael Mott ID’d As Man Struck And Killed By Frontier Plane At Denver Airport

DENVER, COLO. (THECOUNT) — Michael Mott has been identified as the man struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines aircraft late Friday night at Denver International Airport, according to officials. Mott was 41.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred Friday night on the airfield at Denver International Airport, commonly known as DIA, as a Frontier Airlines flight prepared for departure to Los Angeles.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed Tuesday that Mott died from multiple blunt force injuries after being struck by the aircraft.

Denver Chief Medical Examiner Sterling McLaren announced during a Tuesday morning press conference that the manner of death was ruled suicide.

McLaren stated the determination was based on evidence and circumstances observed at the scene of the incident.

Officials said no suicide note was located during the investigation.

According to investigators, fingerprints recovered at the scene helped authorities positively identify Mott.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said investigators are continuing efforts to learn more about Mott and the events leading up to the incident.

Thomas stated authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have known Mott or had contact with him before the incident occurred.

Investigators have not publicly released details regarding how long Mott may have been on airport property before entering the restricted airfield area.

Officials also said investigators have not located any vehicle or bicycle believed to have been used by Mott to access the area near the airport perimeter.

Thomas confirmed Mott previously had contact with law enforcement agencies in the Denver metropolitan area, though no further details regarding those interactions were released.

DIA Chief Executive Officer Phil Washington provided additional information regarding airport perimeter activity during the press conference Tuesday.

According to Washington, airport motion sensors near the perimeter fence detected a herd of deer outside the secured area around the same time Mott reportedly entered airport property.

Officials said Mott allegedly crossed an 8-foot-tall perimeter fence approximately two miles from the airport terminal area before reaching the airfield.

The aircraft involved in the incident was preparing for a scheduled departure to Los Angeles when the fatal collision occurred.

Authorities said the flight subsequently aborted takeoff following the incident.

Five passengers aboard the Frontier Airlines flight were reportedly injured during the aborted takeoff sequence.

Officials confirmed four of the injured passengers have since been released from the hospital.

The condition of the fifth injured passenger was not immediately released.

Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as a major domestic and international transportation hub.

The incident remains under active investigation by Denver authorities and airport officials.
