PINE BLUFF, AR. (THECOUNT) — A father and daughter, identified as Joanthony Garcia and Junique Garcia, were both killed Monday after their motorcycle crashed on Blake Street near Miramar Drive in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, according to the Pine Bluff Police Department. Pine Bluff is the seat of Jefferson County, located in southeast-central Arkansas along the Arkansas River, approximately 45 miles southeast of Little Rock.

Joanthony was 44. Junique was 22.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on South Blake Street near Miramar Drive. According to a preliminary investigation by Pine Bluff Police, the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Blake Street when it went off the road and crashed. South Blake Street is a residential corridor in Pine Bluff running through the southern portion of the city. Miramar Drive intersects Blake Street in a quiet residential area of Pine Bluff’s south side. The roadway and surrounding neighborhood are typical of the city’s residential interior, with moderate traffic and tree-lined streets.

Pine Bluff is Arkansas’s sixth-largest city, with a population of approximately 40,000 residents. The city serves as the commercial, industrial, and governmental hub of Jefferson County and the surrounding southeast Arkansas region. Pine Bluff sits along the Arkansas River and has historically been a center for agriculture, manufacturing, and timber industries. The city is located approximately 45 miles southeast of Little Rock via U.S. Highway 65 and Interstate 530.

Jefferson County, home to Pine Bluff, is one of the more densely populated counties in rural Arkansas. The county is part of the Pine Bluff metropolitan statistical area and is home to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, a historically Black university and one of the flagship institutions of the University of Arkansas System.

Motorcycle fatalities involving multiple riders are among the most devastating categories of traffic crashes, as both driver and passenger are exposed to the full force of impact with no structural protection. Arkansas law requires motorcycle operators and passengers to wear helmets, making it one of the states with a universal helmet law.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact authorities. Tips may be submitted to the detective office tip line at (870) 730-2090 or the dispatch center at (870) 541-5300.
