Holly Williams Arrested Tuesday In Louisiana Head-On Crash That Killed Jessica Cannatella

MADISONVILLE, LA. (THECOUNT) — Jessica G. Cannatella was killed and Holly M. Williams, 38, of Abita Springs, Louisiana, faces multiple felony charges Tuesday afternoon after she allegedly crossed the center line on Louisiana Highway 1085 and struck Cannatella’s vehicle head-on in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Cannatella was 47.

The fatal crash was reported at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, on LA Highway 1085 near Alice Street in St. Tammany Parish. Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the scene.

According to the LSP preliminary investigation, Cannatella was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee southbound on LA 1085 when a 2014 Nissan Murano, driven northbound by Williams, crossed the centerline and struck Cannatella’s Jeep head-on. Cannatella, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Williams, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A passenger in Williams’ vehicle who was not wearing a seatbelt was also injured. That individual’s identity and condition have not been publicly released.

Williams showed signs of impairment at the time of the crash and was subsequently arrested, according to Louisiana State Police. Toxicology results are pending. Upon release from the hospital, Williams will be formally booked and charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, driving while intoxicated — third offense, careless operation, and possession of a fake motor vehicle inspection sticker. A third-offense DWI charge is considered a felony under Louisiana law, carrying a fine of $2,000 and up to five years in prison.

Cannatella was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, a city of approximately 7,500 residents located in Tangipahoa Parish approximately 20 miles northwest of Madisonville across Lake Pontchartrain’s north shore.

Williams is a resident of Abita Springs, an unincorporated community in St. Tammany Parish located approximately 8 miles north of Madisonville and known regionally as the home of the Abita Brewing Company. The community sits in the piney hills of northern St. Tammany Parish and has a population of approximately 2,500 residents.

Louisiana Highway 1085 is a two-lane rural state highway running through St. Tammany Parish in southeastern Louisiana. The highway traverses a mix of residential neighborhoods, wooded corridors, and small community centers in the northern portion of the parish. The area near Alice Street, where the crash occurred, is a semi-rural stretch of the highway in the Madisonville area, a small community of approximately 700 residents situated along the Tchefuncte River at the northern tip of Lake Pontchartrain.

St. Tammany Parish is located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain directly across from the New Orleans metropolitan area and has experienced significant population growth over the past two decades. The parish encompasses communities including Covington, Mandeville, Slidell, Abita Springs, Madisonville, Folsom, and Pearl River. It is one of the fastest-growing parishes in Louisiana and is bordered by Washington Parish to the north, Tangipahoa Parish to the west, and the Pearl River — the Louisiana-Mississippi state line — to the east.

Drunk driving fatalities remain a persistent public safety concern across Louisiana. The state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for alcohol-related traffic deaths per capita, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Louisiana State Police investigation is ongoing.
