Three U.S. Service Members Killed, Five Wounded During Operation Epic Fury Against Iran

WASHINGTON, DC (THECOUNT) — Three American service members have been confirmed killed in action and five others seriously wounded during combat operations against Iran as part of the joint U.S.‑Israeli offensive known as Operation Epic Fury, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Sunday.

As of now the public reports simply describe the fallen as “U.S. service members,” without specifying Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Space Force.

In a statement posted on social media, CENTCOM said the casualties occurred in the course of ongoing major combat operations. “Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty,” the release said, without specifying where the casualties took place.

CENTCOM officials stressed that the situation remains fluid and that additional details, including the identities of the fallen, will be withheld until at least 24 hours after next‑of‑kin notifications are complete, in accordance with standard Department of Defense protocols.

The announcement marks the first reported U.S. military deaths in the conflict triggered by the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets over the weekend. The joint offensive began with a series of extensive bombardments across Iran’s territory aimed at degrading military infrastructure and strategic capabilities, a campaign the U.S. has described as necessary to counter long‑standing threats posed by Tehran’s missile programs and regional activities.

In response to the initial round of strikes, Iranian forces launched waves of missile and drone attacks at U.S. and allied positions throughout the Middle East, prompting intensified air defenses and countermeasures. Earlier reports indicated no American casualties immediately following the initial engagements, but the latest CENTCOM update confirms deaths and serious injuries among U.S. troops as operations continue.

Officials have not publicly disclosed the service members’ names or units. They reiterated that the response effort remains underway and that combat operations are ongoing, with further developments expected as the conflict evolves.
