AL Man Matthew Wade Brasher ID’d As Victim In Thursday Pinson Fatal Crash

PINSON, Alabama — Matthew Wade Brasher, 48, of Trussville, Alabama, has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as the victim in a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Pinson. Authorities say Brasher was the driver and sole occupant of his vehicle at the time of the collision.

The crash happened Feb. 5 in the 6700 block of Deerfoot Parkway at approximately 3 p.m., according to officials. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious traffic collision involving multiple vehicles along the busy Jefferson County roadway.

Brasher was transported from the scene to UAB Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died a short time later from injuries sustained in the crash, the coroner’s office confirmed.

Law enforcement agencies responded quickly to secure the crash site and begin an initial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Deerfoot Parkway, which serves as a heavily traveled connector between Pinson, Clay, and Trussville, experienced traffic delays as first responders worked to clear the scene and assist those involved.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding how many vehicles were involved in the crash or what factors may have contributed to the collision. Investigators typically examine roadway conditions, vehicle positioning, driver statements, and physical evidence from the scene as part of a standard crash reconstruction process.

Deerfoot Parkway is a major north Jefferson County thoroughfare known for carrying steady commuter traffic throughout the day. The corridor links residential communities with Interstate 59 access and commercial areas, making it one of the more active traffic routes in the region. Multi-vehicle crashes in such areas often require extensive on-scene investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to impact.

First responders, including fire personnel and emergency medical services, worked to render aid at the scene before Brasher was transported to the hospital. Standard protocol in serious collisions includes immediate medical stabilization, traffic control, and coordination between law enforcement and emergency services to preserve the integrity of the investigation while prioritizing life-saving measures.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed Brasher’s identity following notification of next of kin. The office routinely assists law enforcement agencies in fatal crash investigations by confirming identity and cause of death once medical evaluations are complete.

Officials have not indicated whether any additional injuries were reported in the crash. No charges or citations have been announced as of Thursday evening, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing evidence collected from the scene.

Motor vehicle crashes involving multiple vehicles often require investigators to piece together information from several drivers, witnesses, and physical evidence left behind on the roadway. Skid marks, debris patterns, vehicle damage, and event data recorders from modern vehicles can all play a role in determining how a collision unfolded.

Deerfoot Parkway has long been recognized as an important traffic artery in north Jefferson County. Its design and volume of daily traffic make it a focal point for commuters traveling between suburban communities and Birmingham. Law enforcement regularly patrols the corridor to enforce traffic safety and respond quickly when incidents occur.

The tragic loss of Brasher marks another reminder of how quickly serious crashes can occur on heavily traveled roadways. Authorities routinely urge drivers to remain attentive, follow posted speed limits, and maintain safe distances between vehicles, especially during peak traffic hours.

Further information about the crash, including contributing factors and the number of vehicles involved, is expected to be released once investigators complete their review. Officials typically wait until evidence analysis and interviews are finalized before providing additional public details in order to ensure accuracy.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and other responding agencies continue to handle the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information is encouraged to contact authorities as they work to determine the full sequence of events.
