MACON, GA. (THECOUNT.COM) — Dantwan Wynes, 19, has been identified as the teen killed in a South Macon shooting Friday night that also left another teenager critically injured, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Coroner Leon Jones said the fatal shooting occurred around 9:00 p.m. Friday on Hardwick Drive, located in a subdivision near Houston Road and Sardis Church Road in south Macon. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a male victim suffering from fatal injuries.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wynes’ family has been notified.
According to Coroner Jones, a second victim, also a 19-year-old man, was injured during the same shooting. The victim was transported by ambulance to a trauma center for treatment.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the injured victim remains in critical condition. No further information regarding his identity has been released.
Investigators have not disclosed details regarding the circumstances that led up to the shooting, nor have they confirmed whether the victims knew each other. Officials have also not stated whether any suspects have been identified.
Hardwick Drive is located in a residential area of South Macon near the intersection of Houston Road and Sardis Church Road, a corridor that includes several subdivisions and is frequently traveled during evening hours.
Law enforcement officials remained on scene for an extended period Friday night as evidence was collected. Deputies canvassed the area and spoke with potential witnesses as part of the investigation.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that investigators are actively working to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities have not released information regarding a possible motive.
Officials have not indicated whether any firearms were recovered at the scene or whether surveillance footage is being reviewed. No arrests have been announced as of the latest update.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details are expected to be released once more information becomes available.
