IN Teen Aidan Patterson ID’d As DUI suspect Arrested In Thursday Fatal Crash

MARKLEVILLE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Nancy Staley, 56, of Markleville, Indiana, was killed early Thursday morning after a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Aidan Patterson of Anderson, crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into her Jeep in Madison County, Indiana, authorities said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department said the fatal crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 109 and County Road 200 East, just outside the town of Markleville.

According to deputies, Patterson was traveling northbound when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with the Jeep Wrangler driven by Staley.

The impact of the crash caused Staley to be ejected from her vehicle. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced her dead. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities said Patterson did not sustain injuries in the crash. Investigators did not indicate whether speed was a contributing factor, and no additional roadway or weather details were released.

Following the crash, Patterson was taken into custody and booked into the Madison County Jail. Deputies said he now faces multiple charges related to the incident.

The charges include operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. A court hearing date has not yet been set, authorities said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department did not release further details regarding the obstruction of justice charge or specify the controlled substance allegedly involved.

The crash occurred at a rural intersection serving local traffic in the Markleville area. State Road 109 is a major north-south route connecting Anderson with surrounding Madison County communities and agricultural areas.

Madison County, located in east-central Indiana, includes the cities of Anderson, Pendleton, Elwood, and Markleville. Law enforcement agencies throughout the county have continued enforcement efforts targeting impaired driving on both state highways and county roads.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Authorities said additional information may be released as the case progresses through the judicial system.

No further details were immediately available.
