SC Hunter Michael Rogers ID’d As Victim In Thanksgiving Fatal Tree Stand Fall ‘Neck Injury’

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Michael Rogers, a 43-year-old father from Townville, South Carolina, tragically lost his life on Thanksgiving Day while hunting with his 11-year-old son. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when Rogers fell approximately 18 feet from a tree stand in the rural woods of Anderson County, as confirmed by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

The fall resulted in severe injuries, including trauma to his neck. Despite the immediate efforts of his son, who initiated CPR, Rogers succumbed to his injuries later that evening. EMS personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

Anderson County officials indicated that Rogers’ recent illness may have contributed to the fall, with investigators suggesting an underlying medical condition could have played a role.

Tree stands, often used in hunting to provide a vantage point, can pose significant risks if proper precautions aren’t taken. Rogers’ fall underscores the importance of using safety harnesses and other equipment while hunting. However, authorities have not specified whether Rogers was wearing any safety gear at the time of the accident.

Hunting is a cherished tradition in South Carolina, especially during Thanksgiving, when families often bond over shared outdoor activities. Tragically, this outing turned fatal, leaving a young boy to witness the loss of his father. The child’s quick response, attempting CPR, highlights his bravery and love for his father, even in such a distressing situation.

Rogers was remembered as a devoted father who enjoyed the outdoors and cherished time spent with his son. His death serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of safety during recreational activities.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office, along with other local authorities, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. No foul play is suspected, and officials are awaiting further medical examinations to confirm the suspected medical condition that may have caused Rogers to fall.
