VIGO COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Mitchell Lankford, of West Terre Haute, Indiana, has been identified as the driver in a Friday double-fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Vigo County.
Lankford, 34, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance resulting in death following a vehicle-versus-motorcycle crash that killed two riders on Friday afternoon in West Terre Haute.
According to reports, Lankford was operating a pickup truck on Highway 150 near Sandford Road in West Terre Haute, when the truck performed a left hand turn in the path of a motorcycle around 3:45 p.m. Friday.
Both the operator and the passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their names are not being released at this time.
Lankford was taken into custody after testing positive for a controlled substance.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
