DOUGLAS COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Katoya Leasa Owens, of Lawrence, Kansas, has been identified as the victim in Monday morning fatal vehicle crash in Douglas County.
‘Toya’ Owens, 39, was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Lawrence early Monday morning. John Grant Redding, of Lawrence, Kansas, was seriously injured in the crash.
According to reports, Owens was operating a Nissan Maxima on West 6th Street near Iowa Street in Lawrence, when the vehicle came into contact with a Jaguar S30 operated by 36-year-old Grant around 1:50 a.m. Monday.
Owens, who became entrapped in the vehicle, was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
Redding was transported to an area hospital with serious unknown injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
