ARLINGTON, VA. (THECOUNT) — Henry Berg-Brousseau, of Arlington, Virginia, son of Kentucky Democratic state senator Karen Berg, has died of apparent suicide. He was 24.
Berg-Brousseau, the deputy press secretary for politics for the Human Rights Campaign, one of the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations, committed suicide on Friday.
According to his mother, her son “long struggled with mental illness, not because he was trans but born from his difficulty finding acceptance”, she said in a news release.
At 16, Berg-Brousseau made headlines for his testimony against an anti-trans bathroom bill in Kentucky.
