JACKSON COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Summer Jean Scholz Newton, of Murphysboro, Illinois, has been identified as the victim in a Wednesday morning fatal vehicle crash in Jackson County.
Newton, 23, was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor near Murphysboro Wednesday morning.
According to reports, Newton was operating a vehicle on IL-149 near Violet Road in Gorham, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 9 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then came into contact with a tractor-trailer.
Scholz was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
