SARASOTA COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — David Chang, of Osprey, Florida, was arrested in Arkansas after he was identified as the driver in a now deadly Sarasota County hit-and-run crash involving “Lilly,” a 13-year-old girl riding her bicycle home from school on August 16th.
According to reports, after hitting the Pine View School student, Chang, 65, fled the scene and drove to an auto body shop in Tampa.
Lilly died of her injuries at All Children’s Hospital in Sarasota on Sunday.
Chang was arrested by police in Jacksonville, Arkansas after a warrant was issued Sunday afternoon.
Chang is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death on top of his previous charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and tampering with evidence.
The tampering with evidence charge came after Chang reportedly drove his car to an auto repair shop in Tampa, an hour away from his home and the site of the crash. A concerned Tampa resident tipped off police to the badly-damaged car, leading them to arrest Chang on August 17, reports Fox13.
