HORRY COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Tammy Gilman Perreault, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, has been identified as the victim in a Wednesday freak umbrella accident in Horry County.
Perreault, 63, was killed after she was impaled at a Garden City beach umbrella Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, Perreault was visiting the Garden City Beach, when a beach umbrella carried by the wind, impaled her around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Perreault, who suffered chest trauma, was transported to an area hospital, where she later died of injuries suffered in the freak accident.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that there were roughly 2,800 unconfirmed beach umbrella-related injuries between 2010-2018.
