GA Man Nick Karantonis ID’d As Victim In Sunday Marietta Fatal Motorcycle Crash

MARIETTA, GA. (THECOUNT) — Nicholas Karantonis of Roswell, Georgia, was killed Sunday evening when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Cobb County, according to Cobb Police. He was 31.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:24 p.m. near 3055 Ebenezer Road, close to the intersection with Sandy Plains Road. Cobb County is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area in northwestern Georgia, with Marietta located roughly 20 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta and Roswell about 25 miles north of the city.

Authorities reported that Karantonis was operating a 2009 Harley-Davidson FHX southbound on Ebenezer Road. At the same time, Thomas Coe, 82, of Marietta, was driving a 2010 Honda Accord northbound on the same road. Preliminary investigation shows that Karantonis’ motorcycle crossed into the northbound lane, where he lost control. The motorcycle slid into the path of the Honda, resulting in a collision in the northbound lane.

Karantonis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office. Coe and two other occupants of the Honda were transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta with minor injuries.

The crash occurred outside a school zone, and authorities confirmed that no children or pedestrians were involved. Cobb Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department at 770-499-3987.

Karantonis was a resident of Roswell, a city known for its historic downtown and suburban communities in the Atlanta area. Thomas Coe, the driver of the Honda, resides in Marietta, one of the largest cities in Cobb County and a central hub northwest of Atlanta. The two additional occupants of the Honda sustained minor injuries and were treated at the hospital, according to authorities.

Law enforcement officials are reviewing evidence from the scene, including vehicle positions, skid marks, and potential mechanical factors. No citations or charges have been issued as the investigation continues. Police are urging witnesses to come forward to provide any information that could help determine the cause of the crash.

Authorities emphasized that preliminary findings are subject to review as the investigation proceeds. Cobb Police remind drivers and motorcyclists to exercise caution, especially in areas near schools and residential neighborhoods in the Atlanta metropolitan region.
