MCHENRY COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Jennifer Fernandez, of Carpentersville, Illinois, has been identified as the wrong-way driver in a fiery crash on Interstate 90 in McHenry County early Sunday.
Fernandez, 22, was driving the wrong-way on Interstate 90 in Marengo when the vehicle stuck a van killing five young people and a woman, identified as, Lauren Dobosz, 31, of Rolling Meadows.
According to reports, Fernandez was driving the wrong-way on I-90 near Milepost 33.5 in Marengo, when the vehicle came into head-on contact with a van around 2:10 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle then burst into flames.
The driver of the van, Thomas Dobosz, 32, was seriously injured in the crash.
Passengers killed in the van have been identified as Lauren Dobosz, two 13-year-old girls, a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl.
Fernandez also died in the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
