HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN. (THECOUNT) — An explosion has been reported Thursday on the University of Minnesota campus in Hennepin County.
U of M Public Safety has confirmed the Minneapolis Fire Department is responding to reports of an explosion and structure fire in the area of University Ave. SE and 17th Ave. SE.
Evacuations are currently underway Thursday around 3 p.m. following reports of an explosion and fire at the school.
While working to extinguish a fire in the basement, crews learned of a sewer explosion that blew manhole covers off the streets in the area of 18th Ave. and University possible down to 10th Ave.
Crews are continuing to monitor buildings for natural gas, the department stated.
