Clayton Cope ID’d As Amazon Worker Killed Friday In Illinois Building Collapse Search & Rescue Ongoing

EDWARDSVILLE, IL. (THECOUNT) — A search and rescue effort is underway following Friday night’s severe weather in Edwardsville, Illinois, after a possible tornado damaged an Amazon facility trapping dozens of workers inside.

Officials are confirming 2 fatalities at the Amazon facility in Edwardsville

Clayton Cope, 29, was identified by his mother as the Amazon maintenance worker killed at the facility.

“Clayton Cope was a maintenance worker at the Amazon fulfillment center in Edwardsville. His mom confirms he died tonight. He was just 29-years-old. His parents and so many others are going through unbearable loss just before Christmas. Please pray for their healing.”

Multiple workers remain trapped at the Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois, following a massive structural collapse Friday night, according to authorities. There are reports that there could be 50-100 people inside the building, Fox4kc Friday night.

A massive section of the side of the building could be seen peeled back.

Severe weather has been moving through the area, including a confirmed tornado that touched down in Edwardsville around 8:30 p.m.

One woman said her nephew works at the facility and was driving up to the building when he saw the metal go flying.
