Tom Hanks ‘Bosom Buddies’ Co-Star Peter Scolari Dead At 66

LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Peter Scolari, the actor who co-starred with Tom Hanks on sitcom “Bosom Buddies,” has died. He was 66.

Scolari’s death was confirmed by Ellen Lubin Sanitsky at Wright Entertainment. Scolari had been battling cancer for two years.

On “Bosom Buddies,” Scolari played Henry Desmond/Hildegard, opposite Hanks’ Kip Wilson/Buffy. The show ran for two seasons on ABC and starred the two as a pair of single guys who dress up in drag in order to live in the one apartment they can afford, according to TheWrap.

Over his 43-year career, Scolari was also a series regular in “Newhart” as producer Michael Harris, for which was nominated for multiple Emmys. He had a recurring role in HBO’s “Girls,” and his most recent role was on the CBS/Paramount+ drama “Girls.” He won an Emmy in 2016 for his “Girls” role as Ted Horvath, the father of Lena Dunham’s Hanna Horvath.

Scolari’s other TV credits include “Fosse/Verdon,” “Madoff,” “The Good Fight,” “Murphy Brown,” “The West Wing,” “ER,” “Gotham,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Ally McBeal,” “From The Earth To The Moon” and “Honey I Shrunk The Kids: The TV Show.”

On the film side, Scolari has appeared in “The Polar Express” and a brief cameo role in “That Thing You Do!,” the later of which was directed by Hanks. The two were lifelong friends following “Bosom Buddies.”

Scolari also had a lengthy Broadway career in productions like “Hairspray,” “Wicked” and “Bronx Bombers.” He would team with Hanks in 2013’s “Lucky Guy.”
