IRON COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — Alan Ainley, a retired deputy who served in Jefferson County for over two decades, has been identified as the victim killed by a falling tree Tuesday night in Iron County.

Ainley, 64, was killed in a vehicle while riding as a passenger after a tree fell on the vehicle near Glover on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Ainley was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 56-year-old Fenton woman, when a tree fell on the vehicle on Highway 21 near Glover around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman driver suffered minor injuries.

Ainley was killed.

Wednesday morning, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shared a message mourning his passing:

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Retired Deputy Kirk Ainley. Dep. Ainley served our department from 9/15/1987 until his retirement 5/22/2012. Dep. Ainley died in a vehicle crash last night. R.I.P. Deputy.”

The vehicle was a total loss.
