Houck said people were taken to a hospital, but would not say how many were injured or how seriously.

At least a dozen police cars are scattered around the parking lot, which is taped off in front of the store. Evidence markers were also visible in the lot, as was a handgun on the ground next to one of the markers, reports Mcall.

John Volpe said he was in the store toward the back with his girlfriend, when suddenly there was a panicked stampede to leave, with people yelling there’s a shooter.

He said there was a mad rush of people getting out of the store.

A witness outside the store, who didn’t want to give her name, reported seeing a man who was covered with blood in the parking lot.

Just before 3 p.m., an ambulance left the lot with its siren on.
