ISABELLA COUNTY, MI. (THECOUNT) — A GoFundMe has been set up for John Keller, the 20-year-old Central Michigan University football player who was shot Saturday morning near the Isabella County campus.

Keller, a quarterback, is “fighting for his life” at an area hospital after being shot during a dispute at a party near the CMU campus at around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Keller was transported to an area hospital in “serious condition,” according to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office.

The gunman fled the scene and is still at large.

Family members erected a GoFundMe to help cover the quarterback’s medical bills. At last look, the fund had raised $23,000.

“Twenty-one year old, John Keller, is a 2018 North Canton Hoover graduate and a current student at Central Michigan. He is a loving son, sibling, and friend to many. Early morning on April 24, 2021, John was shot in the chest by an unknown assailant. Right now John is fighting for his life at Hurley Medical Center and remains in critical condition after being life flighted from another hospital near by. With John’s condition being critical, medical expenses will be extensive throughout his recovery. I ask of everyone to keep John and his family in your prayers during this difficult time. With the help from your generous donations, we can ease the Keller family from the stress brought from medical expenses.”

Another unidentified CMU student was also shot during the altercation and is “recovering,” according to officials.
