EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA. (THECOUNT) — Janaria James of Plaquemine, Louisiana, has been identified as the victim in a 15-vehicle pileup on the old Mississippi River Bridge Tuesday morning.

James, 13, was killed in the crash and an unknown number of people injured near East Baton Rouge Parish Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the massive pileup was reported around 8:30 a.m. on US 190 in the lanes heading into East Baton Rouge. State Police said the crash involved at least 15 vehicles, including several large trucks. James was traveling in a vehicle that was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer.

Shortly after the crash, officials said one victim was airlifted to an area hospital. Another victim was left trapped.

Hours later, police confirmed James died of injuries suffered in the crash.

Several other people were treated at the scene or taken to hospitals with moderate injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
