HARRIS COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Norez Hargrove, of Houston, Texas, has been identified as the suspect facing manslaughter charges after he apparently shot 48-year-old Gerald Peavy as he sleep next to his wife Tuesday night in their Harris County home.

Hargrove, 50, was a guest in the home when a firearm he was handling discharged striking Peavy as he sleep Tuesday night in the Laurel Oaks neighborhood of Houston.

According to reports, Hargrove was a guest in the home, located near Laurel Creek & Laurel Arbor, when he allegedly discovered a handgun. Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the gun discharged, went through a wall, and fatally wounded Peavy as he sleep in his bed.

Peavy was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.

“Og Norez,” was taken into custody.

“The projectile penetrated the sheet rock wall from the living room, entered the bedroom, went through the bedroom television, and struck the homeowner while he was lying in bed,” officials said.

Peavy’s wife was not hurt in the shooting.

A family member home at the time called 911 to report a drive-by shooting after observing a bullet hole in the wall.

Hargrove told deputies he located a firearm inside the residence after the family went to bed. He assumed the firearm was not loaded, pulled the trigger, and the firearm discharged.

Manslaughter charges are pending against Hangrove from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
