CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ. (THECOUNT) — The body of Jabed Ikbal, of Clementon, New Jersey, who went missing last week Cape May County, has been recovered on Saturday morning.
Ikbal, 24, went missing after entering the water in an Ocean City inlet in an effort to rescue other swimmers last Sunday.
According to reports, the evening of July 12, Ikbal was swimming with others at an unprotected beach near the Ocean City-Longport Bridge, when he attempted to save other swimmers who were in apparent distress. He failed to resurface.
A fisherman saw the body around 6 a.m. in Great Egg Harbor Inlet between Ocean City and Longport, according to a statement from an Ocean City spokesman.
Ikbal, who was originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the death remains under investigation.
