ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Giovanni Boiano, of Orangeburg, New York, has been identified as the victim in a fatal vehicle strike in Rockland County Wednesday night.

Boiano, 53, was fatally struck by a suspected impaired driver while mowing his lawn in Orangeburg Wednesday night.

According to reports, Jared S. DeVera, 29, of Englewood, New Jersey, was operating a vehicle near Lester Dr and Fairview Lane in Orangeburg, when the vehicle crossed centerlines and struck Boiano in his yard around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Boiano was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of injuries suffered during the collision.

DeVera has since been charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

DeVera was arraigned in the Orangetown Justice Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
