CHEEKTOWAGA, NY. (THECOUNT) — Hannah Morse, formerly of Lockport, NY, did not know the man who fatally shot her as she worked at a Cheektowaga 7-Eleven, and robbery does not appear to be the motive, this according to police Monday morning.

Morse, 23, was shot by 27-year-old Travis J. Zukic, and later died Sunday at an area hospital.

Cheektowaga Police confirmed the 23-year-old Cheektowaga resident was a store employee but stopped short of offering a motive in the killing.

According to the Cheektowaga Police Department, they responded to a call of a man with a gun inside the 7-Eleven store located at 475 French Road around 11 a.m. Sunday. Police say while dispatchers were on the phone with someone in the store, Zukic shot Morse for still unknown reasons.

Police arrived at the scene as the suspected shooter was leaving the store and an officer fired a shot at the man. The man, who police later identified as Zukic, was not injured, but he was taken into custody, reports WGRZ.

“Can’t piece together why someone would do this…if they didn’t know each other and robbery was not the motive, then what?”

Zukic, of Buffalo, NY, was arraigned Sunday night on one count of second-degree murder in town court. He’s being held at the Erie County Holding Center and will appear in town court on Thursday, according to police.
