ROCKWOOD, ME. (THECOUNT) — Gregory Lee Lemar, of Wiscasset, Maine, has been identified as the victim in a fatal snowmobile crash on Moosehead Lake Sunday evening.

Lemar, 59, was killed after being involved in a snowmobile crash on Moosehead Lake Sunday evening around 5 p.m.

According to the Maine Warden Service, Lemar was operating a snowmobile when he apparently came into contact with a “pressure ridge at a high rate of speed” near Hogback Island.

Officials say, Lemar’s wife was traveling on a second snowmobile when the fatal crash occurred around 5 p.m.

Snowmobilers in the area tried to help following the crash, but Lemar died at the scene, according to WGME.

Wardens say Lemar was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
